Makerere University Joint AIDS Program (MJAP) is a private-not-for profit Company under Makerere University. MJAP works to build partnerships and strengthen health systems to optimally respond to HIV/AIDS, TB and other diseases of public health importance in Africa.
About Project:
MJAP will work in close collaboration with the Rakai Health Sciences Program (RHSP) to implement a program on Accelerating HIV/AIDS Epidemic Control in Masaka region (Gomba, Butambala, Sembabule and Mpigi districts). In addition, MJAP is anticipating a sub-award grant for accelerating HIV/AIDS Epidemic Control in Kampala region; under the President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR).
Job Summary: The Prevention Officer will actively support the districts to implement comprehensive HIV prevention services in the Masaka sub-region and lower community levels.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
Support the district to scale up HIV interventions, targeting key populations (KP) and priority populations (PP) in the districts.
Offer technical guidance in developing/reviewing and integrating of KP and PP HIV program strategies and work plans in the district work plans.
Assist the health workers in the provision of comprehensive TB/HIV care services as per the MoH guidelines.
Actively participate in coaching and mentoring programs for supported health facilities and other stakeholders in HIV prevention, care and treatment strategies for KP and PP.
Support the district to implement strategies and good practices for HCT service provision in accordance with the MOH policies and guideline.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
The ideal candidate for the Makerere University Joint AIDS Program (MJAP) Prevention Officer should preferably hold a Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery (MBChB), or medical health related discipline.
Master’s degree in public health, social science or other relevant field is added advantage.
A minimum of three years’ working experience of implementing HIV prevention, care and treatment particularly for KP/PP programs.
HIV/AIDS Certificate in counselling for individuals with no counselling experience
Excellent interpersonal and team building skills,
Ability to work in a rural setting with district health teams and community service providers
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Demonstrated knowledge on HIV/AIDS prevention, care and treatment programs, adherence approaches and psychosocial support programs.
