Uganda National Bureau of Standards (UNBS) is a statutory body under the Ministry of Trade Industry and Cooperatives mandated to coordinate the elaboration of standards and quality of products and services so as to facilitate fair trade, promote local industries and protect consumers.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
Coordinate, monitor and carry out field surveillance visits to ascertain compliance to the weights and measurement requirements in line with UNBS standards and departmental policies and procedures
The incumbent will develop and design verification guidelines and checklists to ensure that field staff follow set procedures in conducting verification exercises as per laws established.
Offer technical support to field staff, supervise, monitor and mentor staff in the Division to ensure that they handle their assignments professionally and follow the inspectors code of conduct as they execute their roles
Develop and monitor the implementation of the annual, quarterly and monthly budget, work plans and targets of all activities to be undertaken within the Division
Offer technical support, sensitization and guidance to traders and all stakeholders in line with verification requirements.
Develop and maintain database and inventory of all seized equipment in line with UNBS standards regularly monitor measurement traceability of working standards in line with departmental policies and procedures
Prepare weekly, monthly, quarterly and annual reports
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
The applicant for the UNBS Principal Legal Metrologist- Weights and Measures career placement should hold a Masters’ degree in Science or any other related field from a recognized University/Institute
Honours degree in physics, engineering and any other related field.
At least eight years’ experience
Hold a Certificate in Investigations and prosecution
Computer literacy with skills in MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and the Internet applications
High level of integrity and professionalism
Excellent communication skills
Good teamwork and analytical skills and needs to be a
Good team player
Excellent communicator with good oral communication and presentation skills.
Age: Between 30 and 45 years
