About SAC:
Send a Cow (SAC) was founded in the UK in 1988 to help transform lives, by helping African families and orphans to grow enough food to eat, sell their produce and develop small businesses that last. They have provided livestock, seeds, training and ongoing support, to help over a million lives and their families that live in abject poverty. The Send a Cow Group currently constitutes Country Programmes in seven African countries plus the UK and USA, together with a Group Executive which is based in the UK.
Job Summary: The Programme Funding Development Manager will support Send a Cow UK in identifying and developing funding opportunities with institutional donors in the UK, Europe, USA and in-country sources in Africa by supporting programme fundraisers in the UK and Africa to build relationships and prepare excellent funding proposals. The incumbent will ensure that a healthy pipeline of funding proposals is maintained by identifying new funding opportunities and working alongside SAC Country Programme teams to prepare excellent fundraising applications whilst at the same time building the capacity of team members.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
· The incumbent will develop a good understanding of Send a Cow’s work in Africa and the UK and the context and policy framework within which it works
· Develop and maintain an excellent understanding of institutional donors, their wider aims, policies, strategic objectives, funding priorities and contract requirements
· Build and strengthen working relationships with existing / potential institutional donors to open up funding opportunities for SAC, in particular from USAID, EC and other bi-lateral agencies.
· Manage prospect research activities across the Programme Funding Team in an effort to ensure we identify all calls that are suitable for SAC.
· Technically support Programme Funding and Country Programme teams to develop funding applications that include clear, coherent logical frameworks, detailed and accurate donor budgets, well written narrative applications and activity Gantt charts in order to meet donor deadlines for calls for proposals.
· Build the capacity of the Programme Funding team and Country Programme staff to develop excellent funding proposals by working alongside them or by delivering training as required.
· Significantly contribute to pre-proposal project planning and needs assessment processes, grant set up processes and contract management of successful grants as appropriate.
· Ensure all data files and records are kept up to date in the SAC Salesforce Project and Funding Management System (which holds all information about donors, contacts, opportunities, contracts and reporting requirements) and the EC PADOR system.
· Maintain close communication with the Head of Programme Funding and Programme Fundraisers in the UK and in-country, contributing to team teleconferences and workshops.
· Work closely with other SAC teams, including Country Programme, International Programme, Finance, Communications, Marketing and Partnership teams
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
· The ideal candidate must hold a relevant Bachelor’s degree
· A minimum of three to five years’ experience of fundraising from institutional donors including:
· Prior experience of fundraising and contract management of grants from bi-lateral and multi-lateral agencies (in addition to EU and USAID) is desired
· Past exposure and experience of Salesforce CRM including creating reports for review and management is an added advantage.
· Skills in the development and use of logical frameworks for project planning and reporting
· Preparation of and reporting against detailed donor budgets from project plans
· Writing clear and interesting narrative applications
· Skills in building relationships with donors and partners
· Prior experience of USAID and EU processes and fundraising
· Able to use data management systems, Microsoft Excel, Word and Powerpoint
· Excellent communication skills – both written and verbal
· Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work co-operatively in a team
· Confident to initiate conversations and meetings with new contacts
· Good numeracy skills
· Highly organised and able to prioritise a busy and diverse workload.
· Ability to work to meet tight deadlines
