Programme Officer Community Development – Bwindi Mgahinga Conservation Trust – Uganda

Job Summary:
The overall responsibility of a Programme Officer Community Development is to carry out: Community awareness of the BMCT’s Mission, Vision and Objectives, implementation and monitoring of community livelihood improvement projects. .

Key Duties and Responsibilities:
Develop institutional linkages with Local Governments and NGOs in the BMCT area connected with conservation of BMCA
Maintain a liaison and co-operation with partners in realizing BMCT mission
Identify enterprises / income generating activities for improving livelihoods for communities in BMCT working area and in particular the Batwa
Administer and implement approved community development projects and activities through the agreed work plans and budget
Carry out community awareness education in sustainable conservation in BMCA region
Detailed Tasks
Identify training needs to support community projects of beneficiaries
Facilitate participatory assessments and identification of constraints opportunities for improving Livelihoods of communities in BMCT’s working area with special emphasis on Balwa.
Develop and implement donor work plans ensuring proper utilisation of resources. Coordinate Batwa land identification, purchase survey, allocation and utilization
Identification of enterprises / income generating activities for improving livelihoods for Batwa.
Coordinate and monitor Batwa support activities including Batwa school support initiatives.
Coordinate service delivery with service providers for livelihoods improvement/poverty eradication
Produce and maintain project development, implementation monitoring and evaluation reports in accordance with laid down procedure.
Maintain liaison and coordination with other agencies in provision of community education and awareness
Any other tasks as may be requested by BMCT.

Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
The applicant must hold a good degree in Agriculture, Natural Resources Management, Environmental, Rural Development Studies or a related field.
Experience in PRA methods, computer literate, ability to work with minimum supervision
At least three years of experience of working with a rural development conservation NGO, Possession of a valid motorcycle riding licence is an added advantage.
