Carbon Zero Kenya is an ethical global environmental organisation that specialises in implementing environmental projects in Africa with a specific focus on climate change mitigation and carbon offsetting.

To be considered for this position you must be educated to at least degree level in an environmental or scientific discipline. You will be responsible for delivering carbon reduction projects under the Gold Standard, Verified Carbon Standard (VCS) and Clean Development Mechanism (CDM) carbon credit issuing authorities, as well as additional projects as required. Your primary responsibility will be to co-ordinate employees and contractors to implement projects that deliver social, environmental and economic benefits to local people across various locations with a focus on rural clean water supply-projects. You must have experience in leading a team, community and stakeholder engagement, monitoring and evaluation, grant writing and be confident to network with a range of stakeholders from community level through to NGOs and local government

Job Purpose:
To ensure effective day-to-day support is provided to all field operations in the implementation and development of the regional programmes
2. To assist in appropriate design of projects to ensure they will meet the requirements set for CDM and Gold standard projects
To support UK based Project Staff in timely implementation, achievements of the relevant milestones and timely and accurate reporting
To train and support field staff in meeting Gold standard and CDM project requirements
To work with staff to identify and carry out the necessary steps to develop and maintain professional collaboration with local contractors in accordance with MoUs and project requirements
Together with the team, to explore and develop opportunities for co2balance programme development in-country
To ensure that projects remain within the remit of their initial design, approved plans and budget and coordinate the preparation of amendments when necessary to achieve the project objectives
To monitor and evaluate projects in line with Gold Standard and CDM requirements

Job Description:
1. Main Duties and Responsibilities:
Act as focal point of contact for the UK Project Development Team in Uganda and co-ordinate monitoring and evaluation in project areas.
To support project staff in timely implementation, achievements of the relevant milestones and timely and accurate reporting.
To support field staff in meeting Gold standard, VCS and CDM project requirements.
Work with HR in Uganda and UK supporting all required activities.
To work with staff to identify and carry out the necessary steps to develop and maintain professional collaboration with local NGOs in accordance with Contracts, Budgets, MoUs and project requirements.
To ensure that projects remain within budget and coordinate the preparation of amendments when necessary to achieve the project objectives.
Source NGOs and casual staff in project locations to work with co2balance and assist in negotiating on contracts and budget.
Manage day to day running of the projects by implementing reporting processes for project supervisors who are spending time in the field and providing coordination and technical support to the activities.
Ensure project original documentation is adequately managed and stored appropriately.
Facilitate and oversee validation and verification site visits with external auditors
Coordinate and manage the overall planning and direction of CO2Balance’s projects at country level and set country priorities in close coordination with HQ, UK.
Establish and maintain systems and standards for monitoring and evaluation of projects against their strategic objectives and initial design. Conduct regular monitoring for each project location.
Arrange and oversee qualitative and quantitative surveys as required and deliver results to the UK team in a timely manner.
Support the development of marketing material to promote the project and the sale of the credits with ad-hoc request for information.
Attend workshops and conferences to represent co2balance and their activities in order to generate new partnerships and business opportunities.
Regular travel to project areas
All other activities as requested by the acting line manager.

2. Minimum Qualification and Requirements:
You must have:
Proven experience in project management and leading a team
Minimum 3 years working experience in development projects in environmental, conservation, forestry or related sectors
Proven communication skills, with the ability to motivate people and maintain good relationships with local partners, local government and project beneficiaries.
An understanding of logistics and strong experience in budget management
Good organisation and negotiation skills
Good training/capacity building and leadership skills, proven initiative and flexibility
Strong research and analytical skills
Keen attention to detail and the ability to solve problems
Educated to degree level in an environmental or scientific discipline
Excellent written and spoken English
IT Literacy-Microsoft word, Excel etc.

3. Desired Skills
Knowledge of carbon offset schemes such as the UN Clean Development Mechanism and the Gold Standard is not a must but would be advantageous
Technical knowhow of rural water supply systems, in particular boreholes.
Ability to communicate in Lusoga, Lango or any other local language would be beneficial.
