Trust for Africa’s Orphans Uganda (TAOU) is a local NGO whose mission is to improve the livelihoods of the most vulnerable members of the community through agricultural transformation, learning to improve and expand their focus towards skilled, transparent and business-minded members of the community in northern Uganda. It achieves this through; sustainable farming practices, Livestock farming, Environmental protection and conservation practices, Support provision of education and skills, Support provision of health and sanitation services to the target communities, Land rights awareness, Implementation of enterprise development and income generation activities; and advocacy for promotion child/widows protection policies among others.

About Project:
TAOU is undertaking a project named Agri-Enterprise in Sunflower, Soya bean, Simsim and Sorghum for small scale farmers to be implemented over three years with relevant district structures in Pader district commencing on 1st April 2016. This district face the challenges from climate change induced prolonged droughts and food insecurity as well as refugee influx as a result of conflict in the neighbouring state of South Sudan.

Job Summary: The Project Manager will take the overall responsibility of leading, coordinating, planning, supervising, controlling and facilitating the enhancement of the Agri-Enterprise in Sunflower, Soya bean, Simsim and Sorghum for small scale farmers Project, build an effective team and enabling environment to achieve project results. The incumbent will work closely with the District Advisory Committee Members, government officials and Trust for Africas Orphans (TAO).

Key Duties and Responsibilities:
Provide overall leadership and management for project implementation against project plans and donor requirements.
Work in liaison with other staff in collection and verification of baseline data
In charge of the identification and registration of beneficiaries, organisation of the training clusters, commencement of training in Sustainable Agriculture, provision of crop inputs, planting and nurturing of the crops, ensure correct harvest and short term storage of crop products and bulking them in the Coop store
Ensure appropriate and cost effective budgeting and accountability for project activities
Establish coordination, networking and liaison with partners, government, private sector and day today and/occasional communication with TAOU and TAO.
Actively facilitate the development and application of a strong and functioning Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E) systems and ensure effective compliance mechanisms across the project team.
Initiate the procurement, appropriate use and maintenance of equipment, goods and services as are needed to achieve the project objectives, while applying TAOU policies and systems.
Quality and timely periodical and special project reporting to TAOU and donors
Represent TAOU at internal and external forums/networks at regional/district level, establishing and maintaining contact with a range of organisations and individuals who can support the programme.
Work closely with crop buyers such as Mukwano group of Companies, Mt. Meru Ltd, Nile Breweries and others for maintaining stipulated quality standards and need-based revision of the quality standards as per market requirements
Work in liaison with Extension and Cooperatives staff to register farmers, organize them into farmer groups and strengthen their capacity to commercialise and market their produce
Mentor and train the farmer groups in preparation of agribusiness plans and arrange for capacity building for the farmers in financial management and record keeping
Work with the project staff and farmers to ensure quality agro-products are delivered into the marketing chain
Perform any other duties that may be assigned to you by your supervisor that promote the aims and objectives of the organisation.

Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
The applicant should ideally hold a Bachelor’s Degree in Social Sciences or Development studies or Business Administration/ Studies or Finance and Accounting from a recognized University/ Institution.
A minimum of three years’ working experience in NGOs in the mid-level management position
Broad knowledge and understanding of project cycle management including implementation of M&E framework and excel spreadsheets
Excellent team building, communication, facilitation, time management skills, high level of self -awareness and ability to take initiative
Broad understanding of at least one of the thematic program areas of Food Security and livelihoods, Climate change adaptation as well as Land rights awareness.
Excellent in diversified partnership/ institutional relationship development and management skills -like humanitarian actors, government, private sector and NGOs.
Fluent in Luo or Acholi.
