Project Officer- Economic Strengthening – Kampala – RETRAK

Retrak is a registered faith based UK charity working with street connected children in Uganda, Ethiopia, Malawi, Tanzania and Kenya. Retrak works to transform highly vulnerable children’s lives; preserve families; empower communities and give each of them a voice. Retrak’s vision is of a world where no child is forced to live on the streets.

This is an exceptional opportunity for a talented individual to be part of the programme team tasked to manage Retrak’s new “Community Prevention projects” in Kampala and Wakiso.

Purpose of Post: The main purpose of this position is to contribute to the implementation of Retrak Community Prevention project activities, in particular focusing on improvement of family livelihoods and enhancement of reintegration activities.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:
Economic Strengthening:
1.1 Collaborate with local leadership structures in the identification of beneficiaries for the project, specifically through training on different tools including the VAT, NAT, and follow up of FARE vulnerable children and their household members as well as actual participation on field mentorship and guidance in the area of economic strengthening and access to critical services
1.2 Conduct TOTs in VSL methodology, SPM, micro insurance, financial literacy among others to enable effective roll out of these activities in the communities by supporting households to establish and participate in Village Savings and Loans Associations.
1.3 Promote linkages to financial services in collaboration with the Retrak Program Manager – FARE project.
1.4 Carry out capacity building initiatives on Market-oriented skills development to FARE Vulnerable children and their households.
1.5 In collaboration with the FARE Project Officers develop enterprise and market opportunities for beneficiaries.
1.6 Under the direction of the FARE Programme Manager and in collaboration with the other FARE Programme Officers, and the M&E Officer, monitor and support the implementation of project activities and carry out needed capacity building of Community Trainers and beneficiaries.

Child protection and legal services:
2.1 In collaboration with other project officers and the Retrak Programme Manager – FARE project as well as Community Trainers and service actors in the region of operation carry out regular mapping and identify existing community support structures and informal organizations and systematically build their capacity in child protection approaches and principles
2.2 In collaboration with the Community Trainers, other relevant stakeholders support the local leadership structures and beneficiaries to conduct interactive learning sessions and legal clinics for households to create awareness on child abuse and neglect, and other forms of abuse
2.3 Support the Community Trainers and local leadership structures to undertake and promote child participation through sport, and other psychosocial related innovative activities that build the coping, self-esteem and relational abilities of children and adolescents.

Communication and Reporting
3.1. Collaborate with the FARE M&E team with support of the Retrak Programme Manager –FARE project in the development of reports, standards, protocols, manuals, tools and dedicated reports related to family socio-economic strengthening and Child Protection and Legal services objective, success stories, and other reports related to project activities.
3.2. Collaborate with the FARE M&E Officer and other staff in reporting and documenting both for the internal Retrak FARE (quarterly reports) as well as consistency checks of all field reports directly designated to you for the Economic Strengthening objectives as required by the M&E standards.
3.3. Document lessons learned and best practices of the different project aspects to inform roll out of the strategies on a wider scale.

Networking and representation
4.1 Carry out regular mapping of critical service points in collaboration with the other project officers and the Retrak Programme Manager as well as the Iocal leadership structures and other service actors in the region of operation and ensure the consistent use of district level inventories for referral as well as a regular coordination platform for all service partners.
4.2 Represent Retrak in relevant district, county, sub county technical/coordination forums.

General

3.2 Provide spiritual leadership and encouragement by actively participating in the religious life of the organisation.

3.4 Travel to Retrak field operations as and when required.
3.5 Undertake any other duties, as appropriate to the post, as delegated by the line manager.
