About US:
Oil Palm Uganda Limited (OPUL) has established over 6500 hectares of oil palm supported by over 4500 hectares of small holder farmers on Kalangala-Bugala Island with two palm oil mills of 20TPH capacity. Replicating the Kalangala model, we are also undergoing development of 6500ha of nucleus estate and over 3500ha of small holders on Buvuma Island.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
Ensure effective provision of corporate legal services by identifying organizational needs, providing legal advice or sourcing and coordinating appropriate external legal providers and working with them on all company matters.
Working with Managing Director, provides oversight of all government and local government affairs with the company.
Contributes- to the development of organizational culture and policy
Creating and communicating a favorable public image for the employer/ organization through media and other fora’s designed to safeguard investors, customers, stakeholders, etc.
Establish and develop a link with the marketing department/ team to ensure consistence between the clients advertising message and corporate affairs message.
Review and edit all press releases of the organizations including social media e.g. Twitter, Facebook, Youtube, WhatsApp, etc.
Responsible for building project objectives internally and externally through ensuring impact reputation and future success.
Building an effective working relationships (internal and external) with stake holders.
Support, implement strategies to build and protect reputation of the organization/ company both externally and internally, through media relations, government relations, internal communication, etc.
Render support in the development and delivery of strategic direction of community relations strategies and procedures, voice of customer / stake holder feedback.
Manage company relations with neighboring communities, those affected by the project, local government, and immigrant communities and other stake holders.
Provide specialist advice on community relations and community development to management & provide timely and regular feed back to OPUL on the surrounding communities’ concern.
Work closely with the relevant Officer (CLO) he/she will commission, manage & or support external service providers to comply with company policies.
Work closely with the community, governmental departments i.e. Education, Health, Transport& Works among others on relevant issues in a timely, professional, culturally and acceptable manner.
Carry 0ut a baseline survey & thereafter carry out an assessment of the project’s impact on local communities’ means of livelihood at regular intervals.
Develop and implement communication strategy including grievance handling through sensitization and participate in handling grievances from surrounding communities: from sensitization about the procedure until the recording & management of all grievances.
Communicate with surrounding communities on all relevant issues in a timely, professional and culturally acceptable manner.
The incumbent will guide and assist OPUL on handling all social and environmental issues in relations with the surrounding communities.
Implement specific activities as assigned by management from time to time.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
The applicant should preferably hold a relevant degree in humanities (Social Sciences, Education, Mass Communication, Anthropology
At least five years of managerial experience is desired
Ability to supervise and lead subordinates
Ability to collect data and use it to assess social impacts of the project on the community.
Excellent oral and written communication skills.
Good report writing skills.
