Job Summary: The Safety and Security Manager will manage and oversee CRS staff safety and security in Uganda and ensure a safe and secure environment for CRS employees and the security of CRS’s premises and assets, in support of high-quality programs serving the poor and vulnerable. Your knowledge and experience will allow you to ensure compliance with CRS safety and security procedures.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
· Ensure relevant security and safety systems, procedures and policies are in place and that staff, visitors, and contractors properly understand them and adhere to them.
· Work closely with the local authorities and relevant networks, organizations and communities to help ensure a well-informed understanding of the operational context. Attend relevant security meetings and ensure to act upon received information as needed.
· The jobholder will be the country program’s security focal person and at times of security emergencies be available 24/7 to support the Uganda Senior Management Team, by obtaining rapid and frequent communication from the field and by making recommendations for necessary action.
· Provide security orientations and briefings, ensure regular updates on all safety and security related issues.
· Support the collection and analysis of information to be included in security reports.
· Offer timely technical support to CRS sub-offices and partners on security-related issues, as necessary. Identify staff security and safety training needs and support related trainings.
· Perform regular and spot inspection and security risk assessments and analysis. Monitor performance of security service providers, resolve issues as needed, and provide recommendation for optimizing security measures.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
· The ideal candidate for the Catholic Relief Services (CRS) Safety and Security Manager job opportunity should hold a Bachelor’s degree in a related field. Security training certification is desired
· At least five years’ experience working in a similar position with an International NGO including experience working in hostile and stressful environments.
· Familiarity with emerging technologies that relate to safety management and communication a plus.
· Extensive knowledge and experience in security assessments
· Familiarity with various operating environments and key stakeholders in Uganda
· Strategic, analytical and problem-solving skills and ability to make sound judgement and decisions
· Good relationship management abilities.
· Proven ability to take a collaborative and team-oriented approach.
· Excellent English communication skills, verbal and written.
