About US:
The Infectious Diseases Research Collaboration (IDRC) is a non-profit research organization. IDRC conducts research in infectious diseases including Malaria, HIV and Tuberculosis. Our studies have led to over 150 publications and have impacted on the management of infectious diseases in Uganda. IDRC currently manages over 41 grants with an annual budget of $11 million. IDRC was established in May 2008 by Ugandan health scientists from Makerere University College of health sciences, University of California, San Francisco and the Uganda Ministry of health.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
Support the Regional Surveillance Assistants to strengthen HMIS at Health Facility level through training of staff to use and accurately complete the national HMIS tools.
Organize and conduct quarterly joint supervisions of IDRC and partners (MOH, PMI, MAPD, WHO, District Health Teams (DHTs).
Work as a liaison between IDRC and Ministry of Health and malaria partners.
Organize quarterly meetings with stakeholders to discuss strategy, progress, share, and promote data use.
Take lead in setting up new malaria reference centers at select districts across the country.
Manage the collection, completeness and timely delivery of data from MRCs to the head office in Kampala;
Work closely with the Study Coordinator, participate in managing the surveillance database and data quality and assurance program for malaria reference centers
Work in liaison with the Data Manager, participate in compiling and analyzing data and sharing weekly and monthly reports on key malaria indicators.
Key Result Areas:
Mentoring and coaching of Regional Surveillance Assistants
Setting up of functional and model surveillance sites with best practices
Progress reports specifically reports of key malaria indicators
Stakeholder engagement and management
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
The applicant should hold a Bachelor’s Degree in Medicine or a health related degree and a Masters Degree in Public Health/Medicine and or Clinical Epidemiology is an added advantage.
A minimum of three years’ work experience in a similar setting and or prior experience working with the Uganda Ministry of Health.
Extensive knowledge of HMIS, DHIS II and health systems in Uganda
Good computer skills especially with database management and other Microsoft programs for data analysis is an added advantage.
Excellent communication, interpersonal skills and networking abilities
Integrity and ability to develop a productive working relationship with District Health Teams.
Ability to operate in a fast and diverse environment
