Eskom Uganda Limited (EUL) is a subsidiary company of Eskom Enterprises based in South Africa. Our business is operating and maintaining Nalubaale and Kiira Hydro Electric Power Stations. Our mission is to be the Centre of Excellence in Power Concession Management.
Job Summary: The Technical Director will oversee and control the maintenance, engineering and operations function of the company to ensure stakeholder satisfaction and effective plant performance as per the concession contracts and Eskom policies, directives and guidelines.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
Manage the development of strategies that will support the achievement of organizational mission, core values and business objectives
Provide on-going advice to Board members on business and Technical issues.
The jobholder will also manage key stakeholders for the Technical processes as well as enhance the Eskom brand.
Design and implement a mechanism to provide the technical and quality specifications for spares and equipment purchases
Initiate and supervise the development and implementation of plant maintenance programs per Eskom standards and plant specifications to ensure effectiveness and long term plant health.
Oversee and control technical projects to ensure that they are completed to the standards required within agreed time, scope and budget
The incumbent will be tasked with the development of systems and procedures to ensure compliance with company policies & guidelines as well as ensure adherence/compliance to legislative and statutory requirements.
Manage the development and implementation of the capacity management process in line with the power purchase agreement.
Performance Management and development of technical staff
Oversee the development and implementation of technical annual budget including updating the Life of Plant Plan documentation.
Carry out integrated risk management of the technical division for Eskom Uganda Limited.
Oversee the establishment and implementation of a sound IT strategy that will lead to achievement of strategic objectives.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
The applicant must at least hold a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering.
At least ten years’ work experience in plant and power system knowledge.
A minimum of eight years of related experience at managerial level in a similar environment
Proven record of success in plant and power systems as well as Safe working practice background.
Broad knowledge and understanding of technical systems, design, construction and operation practice in the power generation / heavy process industry
Familiarity with the current sector regulatory requirements in the energy industry and applicable industry standards
Proven technical and advisory skills, including the ability to interface with other relevant disciplines(e.g. Operation)
Ready to influence the work and outcome of the individuals that do not directly report to this position in order to meet the company overall objectives
