Technical Guidance And Support – Build Africa

Build Africa is an award-winning charity fighting poverty in rural communities. We work with vulnerable people across Africa to create positive change – helping children get a better education, and parents to earn a secure living – so that together we can find long-term solutions to inequality.

We are implementing three Early Years projects to ensure that boys and girls in P1 to P3 receive support for their learning, both in and out of school. This is so they acquire the fundamental skills they need to achieve a good level of education under four outcomes – including empowering older children to mentor young learners, and enhancing academic and emotional support for younger children.

We are seeking technical support and guidance to implement key activities (under Outcome 3 in the TOR) involving the creation of early school integration ‘Buddy Clubs’ and Peer Learning Supports. This consultancy is being undertaken to provide credible and useful step-by-step procedures on the operation of the Buddy and Peer Learning Support Clubs.

This consultancy will provide a clear set of guidelines and activities, underpinned by a knowledge of child development with goal-led design and explanation of each activity. They will also maximise the integration of the activities and outcomes with other elements of the project.

Materials must be designed for practical application by teachers in Ugandan primary schools, where varying levels of capacity can be anticipated. A recommended training programme should also be outlined. Activities should appeal to a variety of ages within the school and should be adaptable to offer school authorities autonomy in how they choose to practice them.

Build Africa is looking for an experienced evaluation consultant (or team of consultants) to complete this work, delivering the final report and guidance documents no later than Wednesday 18 April 2016.
