Technical Officer – New Born and Child Health – Gulu – University Research Co LLC

About URC ASSIST Project:
University Research Co., LLC (URC), a US-based public health organization working in Uganda since 2005, is implementing the USAID Applying science to strengthen and Improve Systems (ASSIST) Project which is a five-year cooperative agreement dedicated to improving health, population and nutrition services through technical support to service delivery institutions, country Ministries of Health, USAID country missions, and cooperating agencies.

Job Summary: The incumbent will be responsible for the planning and implementing of activities to improve a continuum of community and facility based prevention and case management services using the IMCI algorithm for diarrheal disease, pneumonia and newborn sepsis at USAID ASSIST Uganda supported sites in collaboration with other USG implementing partners.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:
· Build technical competencies of facility health care providers in new born and child health services through trainings, onsite mentorships and peer to peer learning meetings.
· Develop and timely submit work plans and budgets for all assigned MNCH activities at least quarterly
· Regularly review and improve technical strategies employed in newborn and child health services to ensure the USAID ASSIST project work plan is adhered to and implemented with measurable success.
· Make sure of the timely writing and submission of quality and accurate MNCH reports quarterly, biweekly, and at all other requested times.
· Develop and sustain a pool of regional and district coaches with required technical competencies.
· Develop and implement a spread plan to ensure learning from demonstration collaborative become the standard of care at all USAID ASSIST MNCH supported sites
· Ensure that cross-cutting themes like gender and health workforce development are well integrated into the MNCH plans
· Work in collaboration with the KM staff to lead the process of documenting best practices in form of case studies, success stories, abstracts, video clips in addition to the routine biweekly updates, quarterly and annual reports.
· Work in consultation with the Monitoring and Evaluation team ensure that data collected is accurate and valid and captures process and outcome indicators
· Perform any other duties assigned by the supervisor

Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
· All applicants should be Health professionals with experience/ background in pediatrics
· Prior training in IMCI guidelines is an added advantage.
· A minimum of three years’ work experience in Newborn and Child Health gained through serving within a government institution or NGO with proven ability to coordinate activities of different stakeholders at district and or sub national level.
· Possession of a valid registration certificate from a health professionals council.
· Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
· Excellent leadership and team building skills.
· Past experience in providing clinical training to service providers and stake holders.
