WASH Coordinator – Kampala – Action Against Hunger

Action Against Hunger (ACF) is an international humanitarian NGO for over thirty years and it has been implementing Food Security and Livelihoods, Nutrition, Water, Sanitation and Hygiene programs in the Lango, Acholi, West Nile and Karamoja regions of Northern Uganda.

Job Summary: The WASH Coordinator will be responsible for the design and follow up of the WASH Country Strategy and overall mission strategy. The incumbent will also support the assessment, implementation, monitoring, and reporting of current and future ACF WASH programmes in Uganda, as well as liaising with external stakeholders (Partners, Donors, and local authorities). The incumbent will also ensure the technical relevance of WASH interventions according to ACF and country priorities.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:
Take overall responsibility for the management and supervision of the ACF WASH programme
Ensure that the vital elements of community ownership, hygiene promotion and sustainability are being addressed with all WASH interventions
Develop national WASH and co-ordinate its effective technical implementation
Prepare and submit technically relevant reports and proposals reflective of organizational and donor guidelines and to ensure they are submitted on time to line management.
Offer support proper and adequate resource management: HR, Finance and assets.
Ensure organizational learning through sector and experience capitalization, research and technical development at mission level
Represent the department and the organization at national, regional, or international levels and promote ACF’s technical viewpoints, guidelines and methods of work
In charge of the regular inspection of all WASH-related works to ensure that the quality of work being carried out meets the set standards.
Ensure that resources assigned are properly and efficiently utilized
Mainstream WASH into emergency response and food security programmes

Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
The ideal candidate should hold an Advanced University degree (Masters) preferably in Civil Engineering, Social Sciences or other relevant subject.
At least five years of previous experience working with NGO specifically in WASH
Proven management and coordination skills (HR, Logistics, Finance &projects)
Demonstrated ability to translate analysis and evaluation into operational planning and strategy;
Previous experience with evaluations and monitoring.
Past exposure and experience with external representation
Advanced knowledge of WASH guidelines and procedures including those of donors and international standards (e.g. SPHERE);
Disciplined and able to work and arrive at decisions autonomously and with minimal guidance;
Ability and willingness to travel regularly to the field sites.
