Intern – Jinja – Akola Project

POSITION DESCRIPTION:
As an intern with Akola Project in Uganda, you will join the team on the ground and become an integral part of our day-to-day operations. The purpose of this internship is to provide you with a unique learning opportunity about international development work and enhance your own professional development. However, it is a full-time job in a professional working environment and must be taken seriously. The position will require strong attention to detail, efficiency, thorough organizational skills, self-initiative, problem solving capabilities, and an interest in social enterprise. You will work under the supervision of Akola Project staff to assist managing the day-to-day needs of the project, and our 2015 expansion projects. You will also assist other staff members in the Uganda office with general administrative work as needed. This position will require a strong connection with the mission of Akola Project and a willingness to give a complete effort for the organization to meet its development goals.

Responsibilities:
Tasks may include but are not limited to:
• Join Akola Project staff in village trips for Bead Collections and Paper Sales to assist with receipt, collection and payment processes
• Assist with monthly payments to Akola Project beneficiaries
• Assist with supplying materials, checking quality of finished products, cleaning and organizing stock and materials and inventory
• Assist with shipments to the Akola Project Dallas office, including creating packing slips and packing materials
• Attend weekly Akola Project staff meetings, fellowship times and prayer and devotional times
• Assist with bookkeeping, cash management and general administrative tasks as needed
• Assist with monitoring and evaluation, surveys, empowerment and education programs as needed
• Assist with expansion and internalization projects including training women in new skills, recruiting new women, researching new production processes, monitoring construction projects and developing training and procedure written manuals
• Provide leadership that is hard working, relationship-based, in sympathy with Christian values, professional, affirming and positive for all Akola Project staff, interns, volunteers, vendors and women. Seek to contribute to everyone’s spiritual and leadership development, as you grow in your own, through office hours, work tasks, cross-cultural interactions and community gatherings
• Build relationships and have fun with the staff, women and Uganda!

QUALIFICATIONS:
• Minimum four-year BS/BA degree
• Strong organizational skills
• Problem solving capabilities
• Self-initiative

• Abstain from excessive drinking and partying while working in Akola Project’s primary project areas (Jinja, Pajule). Any staff caught doing illegal drugs in the country at any time will be relieved of their duties immediately and pay for all associated costs related to their early departure.
