Millennium Promise Alliance Inc. is the leading international non-profit organisation solely committed to supporting the achievement of the Millennium Development Goals through the implementation of the Millennium Villages Project (MVP) in 10 countries across Africa. The Millennium Villages Project (MVP) implemented by the Millennium Promise and supported by the Earth Institute at Columbia University is a new bottom-up and integrated approach to lift developing country villages out of the poverty trap that afflicts more than a billion people worldwide. The Millennium Villages’ teams of experts in agriculture, nutrition and health, economics, energy, water, infrastructure, environment and information technology are working with local communities and governments to apply a scientific proven holistic package of interventions to help villages get out of extreme poverty and meet the universal Millennium Development Goals (MDGs).
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Planning and Implementation;
· Plan, manage coordinate and ensure achievement of performance targets in the health sector in MVP.
· Overseeing the health sector in developing annual and quarterly work plans.
2. Supervision and Management;
· Carrying out support supervision and coordinating health facilitators in implementation of community health interventions.
· In charge of managing and effectively supervising MVP health facilitators and facility-based health workers and strengthening their skills to ensure delivery of quality health care services.
· Ensuring submission of endorsed weekly, monthly, quarterly plans and reports of the sector and of sector staff to the team leader.
· Taking lead and effectively managing community health interventions with special focus on immunization, sanitation, HVI/AIDS, malaria, family planning and sexually transmitted infections.
· Ensuring supervision, coordination of Community Health Worker activities and training of CHWs in thematic areas.
3. Scale-up and Transition:
· Technically supporting the M&E in the end-term Evaluation through provision of oversight and technical support to the health component of the final evaluation of MVP in Ruhiira.
· Working closely with the Isingiro district leadership to implement scale- up activities.
· Develop, manage and nurture effective partnerships with National, District and other local government authorities responsible for planning, policy, and implementing health activities.
4. Research and Knowledge Building:
· Responsible for organising monthly meetings for all sector staff and other stake holders
· Organise and undertake capacity building activities such as trainings and workshops targeting sector staff, MVP staff and other stake holders.
5. Partnerships and collaboration: Working with the Team in fostering and implementing activities with partner organisations, NGOs and communities
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
· The ideal candidate should hold a Bachelor’s Degree in health related field such as Medicine, Nursing, Pharmacy (Master’s Degree in related field would be desirable)
· At least five years’ experience in Government or Non- Government Sectors.
· Past experience of managing health care interventions and activities
· The applicant must be registered in a recognised professional medical body
· Team work and leadership skills
· Skills in community interaction and mobilisation
· Capacity to work with and support groups with specific/special health needs
· Creativity and ability to handle community health needs
· Capacity to utilise ICT for communication and health service management
