AIDS Healthcare Foundation (AHF) is an international not for profit NGO, with its Headquarters based in Los Angeles, California. AIDS Health Care Foundation is registered in Uganda as AIDS Healthcare Foundation – Uganda Cares (AHF-UC) which is collaboration between the Ministry of Health and AIDS Healthcare Foundation (U.S.A) to provide free HIV/AIDS services; including anti-retroviral therapy in resource constrained settings.
AHF- Uganda Cares to date operates in 15 districts including; Masaka, Kampala, Rakai, Mpigi, Lyantonde, Soroti, Lwengo, Bukomansimbi, Kalungu, Amuria, Butambala, Gomba, Serere, Hoima and Tororo supporting 32 clinic sites country wide.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
· Sees patients both outpatients and in-patients setting (both new and follow-up) as required
· Regularly reviews history and examines patient to determine general physical condition
· Requests or performs various tests, analyses, and diagnostic images to provide information on patient’s condition.
· Responsible for the timely updates of patient charts. New patients require complete History & Physical examination with generation of a problem list and course of action. FolloW-up patients require generation of progress notes and additions, it applicable, to the problem list.
· Analyse reports and findings of tests and examination, and diagnoses condition.
· Completes and documents treatment drugs. Provides the client/s with adequate information related to the diagnosis, the condition being treated and course of action
· Advises patients concerning diet, hygiene/and methods for prevention of disease.
· Refers patients to medical specialists or other practioners for specialized treatment
· Completes medical records and. referrals for clients in need of hospital admission, specialized treatment and transfers to other health facilities
· Undertakes to gather additional information concerning the client and family members to foster a family based approach to patient care
· Reports deaths and outbreaks of contagious diseases to the Medical officer in-charge/ medical director and/or relevant governmental authorities
· Participates in training activities, mentorship and supervision of other provides, volunteers and interns at the facility In conjunction with other’ team members participates in clinical team and quality of care meetings and interventions
· Actively participates as a visiting clinician to support HIV services at lower level and outreach settings
· Participates in health unit CMEs, staff and other relevant meetings Performs medical procedures and minor surgeries including lumbar punctures, 1 & D of abscess, skin biopsies, bone marrow biopsies, treatment of condyloma via cryotherapy podophyllon application or tropical acid therapy Compiling and submitting periodic reports
· Perform any other duties that will be delegated by his/ her immediate supervisor
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
· The applicant should hold a Medical Degree (MBChB) or its equivalent from a recognized university/institution.
· The applicant must be registered with the medical and dental practitioners’ council.
· At least a year’s experience treating HIV positive patients
· Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals, financial reports, and legal Documents.
· Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community.
· Ability to effectively present information to top management, public groups, and/or boards of directors.
· Ability to write speeches and articles for publication that conform to prescribed style and format.
· Computer literacy skills, including MS Word, Excel, Internet, and Email
· Ability to read and interpret documents pertaining to packaging, supplies, shipment and deliveries.
· Ability to communicate well with vendors and other relevant individuals.
