Rakai Health Sciences Program is a collaborative Bio-medical research and service delivery organization. It strives to improve the quality of life of the local population through a combination of community based research, curative services and prevention strategies in the District of Rakai, South Western Uganda. It is based at the Uganda Virus Research Institute Entebbe and Kalisizo in Rakai District.
About CDC Program:
With funding from PEPFAR/ Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), RHSP is implementing a 5 year comprehensive HIV/ AIDS program in the 12 districts of Masaka region namely; Rakai, Kyotera, Masaka, Kalungu, Bukomansimbi, Lyantonde, Lwengo, Sembabule, Butambala, Gomba, Mpigi, and Kalangala with an aim of achieving rapid HIV epidemic control.
Job Summary: The Voluntary Medical Male Circumcision (VMMC) Nursing Officer will assist the clinical officer when carrying out circumcision and provide quality nursing care to clients coming for circumcision. He/ She will also support VMMC related training and must treat each client with dignity and respect.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
Support clinical officers in carrying out circumcisions
Provide nursing care to clients attending the clinic
Assess clinical patient problems and triages patient under the advice of a clinical officer
Cleaning, disinfecting and packing surgical instruments
To treat each client with dignity, respect and understanding
Maintain nursing records according to mandatory legal requirements ensuring that confidentiality is maintained at all times
Ensure procedures are carried out safely in accordance with agreed policies
Perform any other duties as may be assigned
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
The ideal candidate for the Voluntary Medical Male Circumcision (VMMC) Nursing Officer job opportunity should have completed Nurses Training from a recognized education institution
At least three years of work experience in a clinical setting
Experience of working in a theatre setting is an added advantage
Ability to effectively communicate with patients
Knowledge of good nursing procedures and practices
Ability to work in a team
Willingness to work extra hours
Must be willing to work in rural setting.
