Advocacy Officer – Kampala – Community Integrated Development Initiatives

About US:
Community Integrated Development Initiatives (CIDI) is a National NGO that coordinates and implements several projects in Uganda. CIDI works at the vanguard of community development focusing on four thematic areas; water and sanitation promotion, sustainable agriculture for food and incomes, health promotion, conflict prevention and peace resolution. CIDI with branches across the country works amongst the poor and vulnerable communities in both rural and urban areas to improve their livelihoods. In partnership with PATH, CIDI will implement a 4 years USAID funded program (Advocacy for Better Health) implemented in Kayunga, Luwero, and Nakasongola.

Job Summary: The CIDI Advocacy Officer will technically support the promotion of citizen – led and evidence based advocacy for better health in Kayunga district.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:
Build partner professional capacity to engage in research, policy analysis and advocacy at that level.
Mainstream and integrate Advocacy in all Program activities
Actively coordinate and manage partner evidence-based advocacy function to influence positive policy change in issues of governance, poverty, rights and justice in society etc.
Train and form community advocacy structures.
Conduct training in advocacy for project staff to increase their knowledge and skills to understand issues and the role they can play in influencing pro people policies to reduce poverty in selected communities.
Form strategic alliances with civil society organizations and development partners in the organization’s operational area to influence policy change.
Mentor and train partners in effective utilization of media to advance advocacy work for different targeted categories.
Develop and strengthen collaboration with government at the local level to put forward advocacy tapes issues for redress.
Design capacity building packages for trainees.
Document experiences and case studies to support learning in different sectors.
Actively participate in resource mobilization for the organization from time to time.

Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
The ideal candidate should hold a Bachelor’s Degree in Social sciences, Development studies, SWASA, Project Planning or any related field.
A minimum of two to three years working experience in similar field from reputable organization.
At least four years of NGO experience in health promotion and Advocacy in Uganda.
Working knowledge on local Government budgeting cycle and duty bear’s engagements as well as community empowerment is required.
Working knowledge of the health sector especially at both district and national level is a MUST.
Skills in conducting training in advocacy structures and developing advocacy messages are a MUST.
Willingness to work under minimum supervision with good truck record from the past employers.
Possess a valid driving and/or riding license.
Possess the ability to speak the local language Luganda, English, and ready to reside in the project area.
Hold a Policy Advocacy training certificate.
Ability to write reports on time and within the required donor and organizational standards.
Skills in resource mobilization are an added advantage.
