About US:
Uganda Development Trust (UDET) is a consulting firm that provides Business Development Services (BDS) directly to grassroots community groups and SMEs engaged in businesses that are aimed at creating gainful employment and sustainable market outlets for smallholder farmers in Uganda. Currently, UDET is the Strategic Partner of the United States African Development Foundation (USADF) and also manages an AGRA Markets Access Program in Uganda.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
Offer technical guidance to SMEs to build their management systems through regular training, developing clear and realistic project implementation plans, participatory monitoring and evaluation management information systems, linking them to financial institutions for funding and assist them to identify and procure appropriate processing machinery.
Carry out market studies covering specific sectors of interest to AGRA, UDET and other strategic partners.
Summarize these market analyses and use the information in developing clients’ business plans.
Support clients seeking financing from financial institutions to develop bankable business and marketing plans.
Support clients to carry out financial appraisals on the businesses seeking financing to ensure they reflect complete economic and financial viability.
Regularly review clients’ quarterly reports, assessing challenges met and progress made on set performance indicators.
Support clients to analyze their value supply chains and market segments to improve performance.
Assist clients to accurately cost and price their products to remain profitable and competitive in the market.
Actively monitor all ongoing projects/businesses, identify and solve recurrent problems in a timely manner.
Document the impact of the UDET Business Development Services (BDS) program on SMEs and Smallholder Farmers (SHF).
Profile SMEs and SHFs
Map and geo-tag SMEs & SHFs for easy reference.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
The candidate should possess a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration (BBA) or in Entrepreneurship and Small Business Management with a marketing bias and strong understanding of agro – products / processing.
Past experience with consumer product marketing and benchmarking will be an added advantage
Possess excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work collaboratively to provide effective BDS to a broad spectrum of clients.
Good working knowledge of written and spoken English and two or more local languages.
Driver’s License and willingness to travel frequently to rural areas.
The candidate must have training skills, experience and ability to train UDET’s clients using adult training methodologies.
Possess the ability and willingness to travel frequently and visit remote locations under extreme hard conditions with limited health care facilities and,
Commitment and ability to relocate to any part or region in Uganda
