About US:
Voluntary Action for Development (VAD) is a nongovernmental organization founded in 1996 to improve the livelihoods of the poor and disadvantaged communities, primarily targeting the most vulnerable groups including children, women, youth, people with disabilities, and people with HIV/AIDS and the elderly in Wakiso, Mpigi and Amuria districts through empowering and facilitating communities to effectively participate in their socio-economic development. VAD achieves this goal through implementing food security, income security, agribusiness, peace building, family economic empowerment, child rights, health and advocacy programs. In order to ensure effectiveness, ownership and sustainability of the programs, VAD cherishes community participation in the planning, management, implementation and monitoring of programmes.

About Feed the Minds UK Project:
In partnership with Feed the Minds, a charity based in United Kingdom (UK), VAD has received support from BIG LOTTERY FUND, a UK based donor agency, to implement a three years livelihoods development project in Amuria District, starting on 17th August 2015 and ending on 16th August 2018. This project will focus on vocational skills development, business and financial literacy for women and youth, and advocacy. VAD will work hand in hand with St. Kizito Vocational Institute located in Madera, Soroti, to equip women and youth with vocational, business and financial literacy skills.

Job Summary: The Field Officer: Advocacy will oversee the mobilisation and sensitisation of communities in Atiira, Amemia and Nyada parishes on human rights with particular inclination to children, youth and women rights

Key Duties and Responsibilities:
· Mobilise and train 51 community based human rights advocates and mentor them on surveillance of human rights protection and abuses, and build their capacities in arbitration of human rights abuses and referral procedures;
· Oversee the development of human rights and advocacy materials; work jointly with community advocacy structures to design appropriate advocacy plans, and technical backstopping and mentorship for community advocacy structures in the implementation of the advocacy plans;
· The incumbent will engage cultural leaders and men in the target area to redress traditional norms and stereotypes that discriminate women, youth and the girl child.

Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
· The VAD Project Field Officer Advocacy should possess a Bachelor’s Degree in Development Studies, Social Work, or any other relevant field. Applicants with qualifications in Human Rights will have an added advantage.
· The applicants must have Functional Adult Literacy (FAL), human rights and advocacy skills;
· A minimum of three years’ experience of working with similar projects from a reputable institution;
· Excellent report writing, communication and interpersonal skills
· Ability to work with minimal supervision and beat tight deadlines;
· The incumbent should have good motorcycle riding skills with a valid Class A driving permit;
· Proven knowledge and skills in project planning, management, monitoring and evaluation.
· Fluency in Ateso and English
