Baylor College of Medicine Children’s Foundation – Uganda (Baylor -Uganda) is a private not for profit NGO that provides: HIV/AIDS care, treatment and prevention services; maternal child health services; Health Professional training and Clinical Research.

Job Summary: The Research Manager will develop and monitor the implementation of systems and procedures for managing research programmes and activities in Baylor for purposes of cross-organizational and program learning in line with Baylor Uganda’s mission

Key Duties and Responsibilities:
The incumbent will develop and monitor the implementation of Research polices, strategies and SOP in line with Baylor Uganda’s mission
Develop and monitor the implementation of quarterly and annually Baylor Uganda Research departmental plan and manage the budget in line with Research policy and financial guidelines
Develop and monitor the implementation of systems and guidelines for conducting internal research monitoring, regulatory and auditing to enhance compliance of the research team members to the required research protocols in line with Research department mission and BIPAI Research Study Audit Procedure.
Develop a research ‘5 years operation strategy based on holistic strategic thinking’ and monitor its implementation through quarterly Research departmental Score card then write quarterly reports in regard to the performance of Research projects in line with Baylor Research policy and donor funding protocols
Keenly monitor the implementations of systems and procedures for maintaining a functional BCM internal institutional review board to enhance an efficient process of proposal approvals in line with IRB standards of Uganda national council of science and technology
Actively monitor the implementations of systems and procedures for maintaining a functional Baylor- Uganda Community Advisory Board (CAB) in enhancing the efficacy of the informed consent process and the implementation of research protocols then monitor implementation of agreed upon action areas throughout the study cycle in line with Baylor Research policy
Develop and maintain partnerships and networks with research oriented organizations/partners mainly in health management as well as with other pediatric HIV treatment centers for purpose of recruiting study patients (in Kampala) in line with the Baylor Research policy and various study objectives
Develop and maintain a competent and motivated “team of Baylor Uganda Research leaders” through implementing HR support activities in line with the Human resources manual and Baylor Uganda research policy.
Develop and monitor the implementation of a capacity building program for Staff in writing research protocols, abstracts and manuscripts for publication; and monitor the dissemination of these publications in line with Baylor Research policy and donor funding protocols
Invite researchers for joint research and publication, review manuscripts for publication and monitor the dissemination of these publications in seminars, conferences and international journals in line with Baylor Research policy and donor funding protocols
Develop and monitor the implementation of systems and procedures to enhance periodic research grant proposals preparations and submit approved research grant proposals to the supervisor in line with Baylor-Uganda proposal writing guidelines and donor requirements

Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
The applicants should preferably hold a Bachelor’s Degree in Medicine and a Masters Master’s degree in a medical related field, Epidemiology or Public Health with Knowledge/ training in quantitative and qualitative research. Possession of a PhD will be an added advantage
A minimum of three to five years’ experience as a medical doctor and six years’ experience as a researcher and prior experience of managing a research team
Good team and communication skills, networking and partnership skills.

Persuasive and convincing, self- motivated, analytical and able to demonstrate high initiative.
