Job Summary: The Safety and Security Officer will be responsible for the maintenance of a safe and secure environment for the organization’s premises, assets, and all personnel, and ensuring maximum proactive security in line with best practices in security management. The incumbent will coordinate security matters with management, sourced security firm at the premise and the public security organs as per the needs and the procedures. The jobholder will also assist in upholding the policies, oversee the compliance of all security guidelines, and act as point of reference for security communications and reporting to management, while ensuring value for money, efficiency and effectiveness. S/he shall be required to have advance training in safety and security matters.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Safety Management:
Ensure the office premises are maintained as per the Occupational Safety and Health Standards by implementing safety and security procedures for maximum compliance, and coordinating orientations and refresher trainings in safety drills.
Keenly monitor functionality of machines/generators and repairs/replacements.
Ensure all office assets and staff are safe, and that operations are carried out in a safe and secure manner.
Regularly assess conditions of assets and the building premises, and recommend them for disposals/ replacements.
2. Security Management
Conduct routine security check-ups within and around UHMG premises. Run random checks, patrols and monitoring of the building, equipment, and access points and surroundings.
Ensure entry and exit procedures are withheld and followed by both visitors and staff.
Regularly report irregularities and violators of policy and procedures, while working with the security firm to restrain trespassers.
Provide staff with regular security updates regarding the premises, community, or country at large. Take the lead and initiative in communicating, coordinating and reporting security matters to management and/or staff in a timely and effective manner as deemed fit.
Regularly monitor performance of the hired Security Firm’s personnel.
Carry out a daily CCTV surveillance monitoring and report suspicious incidents immediately.
Prepare and submit weekly reports to the supervisor on observations made and on information gathered on incidents or likely occurrences following surveillance and monitoring checks carried out.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
The ideal candidate should hold a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration, with a Post Graduate Diploma in Security Management, and experience in handling security in a workplace setting. Additional training in security management will be an added advantage.
A minimum of three years’ relevant work experience in property surveillance and security related areas.
S/he will be computer literate with hands-on experience in security monitoring of premises using software packages and CCTV surveillance coverage to monitoring movement electronically is a must.
Broad knowledge and understanding of security matters, and experience in designing and running operational security models.
Clean criminal track record is a must, with references of previously managed operations.
The applicant should be a self-driven, motivated, focused, disciplined, and dynamic person with the ability to detect suspicious actions or motives.
The applicant should be highly responsive, expert in managing emergencies in a confidential manner, with resilience to close operations to the end, and with a resolve to exhibit objectivity, integrity, and innovation.
The person should have the capacity to work under minimum supervision, maintain systematic records, as well as undertake timely reporting, while upholding our Core Values.
