Makerere University Joint AIDS Program (MJAP) is a private-not-for profit Company under Makerere University. MJAP works to build partnerships and strengthen health systems to optimally respond to HIV/AIDS, TB and other diseases of public health importance in Africa.
About Project:
MJAP will work in close collaboration with the Rakai Health Sciences Program (RHSP) to implement a program on Accelerating HIV/AIDS Epidemic Control in Masaka region (Gomba, Butambala, Sembabule and Mpigi districts). In addition, MJAP is anticipating a sub-award grant for accelerating HIV/AIDS Epidemic Control in Kampala region; under the President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR).
Job Summary: The Elimination of Mother to Child Transmission of HIV (eMTCT) Officer will offer technical guidance and build the capacity for eMTCT in the DHTs and health facilities for planning, monitoring and evaluation eMTCT services delivery in the region.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
Support health facilities to provide quality services for prevention and elimination of Mother to Child Transmission services in the districts
Support training of health care workers in HIV counseling and testing, provision of ARVs for prophylaxis to the HIV pregnant mothers, mothers in labor and delivery and lactating mothers, provision of ARVs for prophylaxis to the exposed babies and early infant testing (EID services).
Ensure health facilities have adequate supplies of HIV testing kits, Laboratory supplies for testing pregnant women, lactating mothers and women in labor and their exposed babies.
Supply eMTCT EID data tools for collection of data (ANC, labor and delivery register, PNC register, exposed infants care cards, exposed infants register, family planning registers, HIV client care cards, Dry blood spots dispatch forms, triplicate referral forms and monthly reporting forms)
Actively participate in coaching and mentoring of health providers in the facilities to offer quality HCT.
Support the district eMTCT team to monitor and evaluate the PMTCT-EID activities, as per the national monitoring and reporting guidelines.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
The ideal candidate for the Makerere University Joint AIDS Program (MJAP) Elimination of Mother to Child Transmission of HIV (eMTCT) Officer should preferably hold a Bachelor’s degree in Nursing or Community Health or Public Health with a Master’s degree in a related discipline.
A minimum of three years’ of related working experience in supporting eMTCT EID activities.
Good report writing and networking skills.
Strong analytical and team building skills.
Previous experience in health worker capacity building through trainings and mentorships is a must.
Dynamic thinking and innovativeness
Ability to work in a rural setting
