About IOM:
The International Organization for Migration (IOM), established in 1951, is the leading international intergovernmental organization dealing with migration. Its objective is to ensure the orderly migration of persons in need of migration assistance throughout the world.
IOM Uganda has been registered and operational since 1988, when the field mission was established. Throughout the past 20 years, IOM Uganda has processed movements and facilitated information gathering and support towards refugees, internally displaced persons, demobilized child soldiers, trafficked women and other migrants and their specific needs, both on individual and large scale population movement. In addition to operational matters and research, IOM has an important role in enhancing and building national capacity in migration management.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
Provide advice on all technical matters, including physical planning
Make key recommendations on the procurement of all the required material, equipment and tools to ensure timely implementation of plans and functioning site facilities.
Offer technical assistance and supervision in construction activities and refurbishment of existing units.
Prepare lay out, bill of quantities, assist in calling for bids, provide the technical evaluation, assist in preparing the contractual agreements and supervise the work of successful contractors.
Guide on contracting and construction arrangements especially make all necessary measurements and control the quality of works and make all engineering decisions required for the successful and timely implementation of the construction contracts
Ensure that the construction methods as proposed by the contractor for carrying out the works are satisfactory
Administer the Construction Contracts, approve materials, and work methods to ensure the quality of the works in accordance with the contractual specifications and if required suggest modifications in the contractor’s work program, method statements, material sources, etc;
Qualifications, Skills and Experience: The applicant for International Organization for Migration (IOM) should hold a University degree in Civil engineering with additional training/experience in rural development.
PS: These services will not be provided full time and will be required as and when needed.
