About USAID Project:
USAID Uganda is funding a new five-year Youth Leadership for Agriculture program to increase economic opportunities for hundreds of thousands of Ugandan female and male youth aged 10 to 35, in agriculture- related fields, in order to increase their incomes and build entrepreneurial, leadership, and workforce readiness skills. Pending confirmation of funding, TechnoServe will lead this program in select districts in Uganda, including Northern Uganda, through market systems and facilitative approaches. This program will focus on achieving two specific objectives by partnering with both public and private entities: (1) increased incomes of youth working in agricultural value chains (specifically maize, beans and coffee); and (2) improved skills development (entrepreneurship, employability, leadership, and life skills) obtained through formal and non-formal education and training organizations.
Job Summary: The Youth Development Specialist is responsible for supporting implementation and best practices in capacity building in the areas of youth development and gender. The incumbent will lead identification of models and approaches that enable positive youth development and gender equity principles to be integrated throughout the Program. S/he will also advise, create and, if need be, facilitate training programs and tools to enhance knowledge performance for internal staff and partners to enable them to achieve impact with youth, especially young women. Ideally, this person should have served in the capacity of a youth development advisor for other youth development programs and has extensive experience providing direct services to young people.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
The ideal candidate should hold a Bachelor’s degree required in relevant field. An advanced degree preferred.
A minimum of ten years’ experience in advisory, capacity building roles, including international development, ideally in education and youth development programs.
Eight or more years’ experience in strategic planning, capacity building
Past exposure and experience with direct service provision to youth.
Prior experience designing and implementing programming focused towards young women.
Possess excellent interpersonal and analytical skills.
Strong focus on results
Excellent written and oral communication skills.
Strong team player, with demonstrated ability to positively motivate team members to success.
Prior experience working in Uganda.
Demonstrated understanding of and passion for youth economic empowerment and improvement of livelihoods. Deep appreciation for youth energy, leadership and entrepreneurial spirit
Ability to travel up to 50% of time.
Fluent in written and spoken English;
