The Agricultural Business Initiative (aBi) Trust is a multi- donor entity jointly founded by the Governments of Denmark and Uganda to support private sector led agricultural development to achieve the objective of the Government of Uganda’s Competitiveness and investment Climate Strategy (CICS). The mandate of aBi Trust is to support the private sector actors to increase their contribution to the agricultural sector by increasing land and labour productivity, and market competitiveness thereby contributing to poverty reduction through economic growth, wealth, and employment creation. aBi Trust strengthens competitiveness of the Agricultural and Agro-processing sectors through two (2) interrelated components: Value Chain Development (VCD) including trade-related Sanitary and Phyto-Sanitary and Quality Management Systems (SPS/QMS) and Financial Services Development (FSD).
Job Summary: The Senior Risk and Compliance Officer will guide the management of aBi on any potential risks to the existence of the organisation, identify and assess threats, put contingency plans in place and decide how to avoid, reduce or transfer risks. He / she will be responsible for managing the risk to the organisation, its employees, customers, reputation, assets and interests of stakeholders.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
In charge of the planning, designing and implementing an overall risk management process for the organisation;
Risk assessment: analyzing risks as well as identifying, describing and estimating the risks affecting the business; Risk evaluation: comparing estimated risks with criteria established by the organisation such as costs, legal requirements and environmental factors, and evaluating the organization’s previous handling of risks;
The incumbent will play a role in establishing and quantifying the organization’s ‘risk appetite’, i.e. the level of risk they are prepared to accept
Responsible for risk reporting in an appropriate way for different audiences, for example, to the Board of Trustees so they understand the most significant risks, to senior management to ensure they are aware of risks relevant to their departments and to individuals to understand their accountability for individual risks;
Corporate governance involving external risk reporting to stakeholders;
Carrying out processes such as appropriate insurance covers are taken, implementing health and safety measures and making business continuity plans to limit risks and prepare for if things go wrong. These processes need to be coordinated with the Corporate Services Manager;
Carrying out audits of policy and compliance to standards, including liaison with internal and external auditors;
Offering technical support. education and training to staff to build risk awareness within the organisation.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
The Senior Risk and Compliance Officer should hold a Bachelor’s degree in Business, Economics, Finance or related field. Professional qualification of CIA, ACCA or CPA is a must
Applicants with risk management and compliance training will possess an added advantage.
At least five years’ experience in risk and compliance management. Prior experience in agricultural related sector is an added advantage.
Detailed knowledge and understanding of operational, financial, quality assurance, and human resource procedures and regulations is a must.
Possess the ability to conduct periodic risk assessment and response plans.
Ability and experience in conducting internal monitoring and company audits
Articulate, effective communication skills.
Well-developed analytical skills and innovative strategic thinking
